Default Dried Nasal Discharge

Hello everyone! I am new to the site and hoping to possibly get some answers. Sorry if I am posting something that has already been discussed!

I adopted a cat in December from my school. His name is Diesel and he is a DSH and 1 year old. He came to my school July 2008 and was about 12 weeks old. Between July and December he had gotten all necessary vaccinations as well as being neutered and declawed. Since he had came to the school he always had a dried nasal discharge. It was suspected that this was due to the litter they used which was similiar to saw dust. I got him home in December and took him to the Veterinarian to get a check up in January. The Veterinarian noticed the dried nasal discharge and said he had respiratory noises in his chest (not upper respiratory noises) and prescribed him Clavamox 2 times daily for 14 days as well as L-lysine paste 1 ml everyday. I have been keeping up with the paste and he has long finished the Clavamox and still has discharge. It is not runny whatsoever just dried crusty black/brown scab looking discharge. I try to pick it off when I can and when he lets me because I am afraid if I dont it will block up one of his nostrils.
I do not know what to do. I dont know if I should take him back to the Veterinarian, or if I should try a different food as it could be food allergies or what. If anyone has any information that could help me I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks!!
