Default Skin/Fur problems.

A few months ago one of my cats started to get some sort of rash on her skin. There are little bumps (almost like pimple type bumps) in the area and her fur has fallen out in the area and has not grown back. We talked to someone at a local pet store and they recommended some high nutrient food so we did and it didn't really work at all.

Now just about a month ago my other cat started to get some of the same symptoms, but no where near as severe. It is just one little spot and most of his hair is still there. However it is somewhat rigid. And one small spot is gray (His hair is mostly brown). And when you pet or touch him in that area he goes kinda crazy. He lifts his head in the air and it looks like he is trying to bite the air(Kinda funny looking actually). And recently if I have my other arm near his head while I am doing this he will kinda sorta bite it.. He doesn't actually bite, but it's like he is chomping away w/o actually opening his jaws all the way so he doesn't bite. And tonight I was looking at his skin again and it is BLUE in that area!

Oh and on both cats this is located on and around the spine near at the tail and up (approx. halfway up). And the skin seems to be very dry and flaky.

We would have taken them to a Veterinarian sooner, but we really can't afford to do so unless we are sure it is needed. Does anyone know what is wrong with my cats? I am very nervous that there might be something seriously wrong with my kitties...

Also if this helps at all. The first cat I talked about before all this happened her fur was very oily and wasn't the softest or nicest fur to the touch, but since then it has been just fine except for in that area. Very rigid.

Hi JPT

check for fleas...i reckon its got to be the flea problem...

My male cat behaved im-biting-the-air kinda manner, when he had the flea infestation issue, another female developed the skin problem u mentioned, when i took them to the Veterinarian, he said it was the fleas causing the itchy feel, so when u pet them ,they tend to do that funy air biting act:P.. and the fleas tend to eat the flesh of their hosts, hence our babies develop the pimpled patch with hair loss, dont worry , see if you can get urself this anti flea spray "FRONTLINE" . another option would be a solution called "ADVANTAGE" : a liquid which u need to apply in a single straight line on your pets body, right from the head to the tail.. do not bathe them for the next 4 -5 days.. ditto for frontline.. frontline and advantage work jus great.. but u will need to consult your Veterinarian for sum medication to treat that infection...

hope your babies recover sooon... and good luck

Fleas or mites...Veterinarian can do a skin test to check for those.
