you could kill your cat
Recently my cat has had an injured paw. My parents made me give the cat a little bit of powder from the tylenol extra streght to my cat. I just recently found out that the active ingredient acetaminophen can kill your cat. One pill could kill a cat but I only gave some powder. My parents will never take my cats to the Veterinarian and I just want to know if my cat will be O.K

A "normal" dose to a human is a mega dose to a cat or dog, just look at the wieght difference between us and our pets. It's just common sense that they would require less to reach critical dose. I gave Bitsy (my schanuzer, story in my sig) a 1/10 of a lortab before (5mg hydrocodone 500mg acetaminophen) and she appeared to like it, and it did help her with the pain. Good luck

why won't you take your cat to the Veterinarian? You are required by law to do so in order to get shots. Your cats are a health hazard for yourself and for everyone in your community without them. There is no cure for rabbies. Why would you risk health problems for your kitty and for people? I hope you have been taking your cat to the Veterinarian for shots at least.

I wasn't trying to "attack" the poster... but his/her post was upsetting to me. People that won't and/or can't take care of their pets... shouldn't own them.

Unfortunately, this is the real world. It doesn't always happen that way, and sometimes even the most loving and compassionate pet parents cannot afford problems that may come up with their beloved furkids. Although I do not know the OP's whole story, and I agree that these cats should be able to see a Veterinarian if the need arises (and should have shots, especially if they are allowed outdoors), I find your statement "People that won't and/or can't take care of their pets... shouldn't own them." offensive and overgeneralized. Won't is different than can't. I cherish my cats, but when my 10 y/o Trixter was diagnosed with Feline Diabetes, I in no way had $500+ to get him started on his treatment. Does that mean I should not have taken him from a life of being constantly outside with no human contact or medical care EVER? I don't think so.
I am not trying to attack you, Latergatorj. My point is that maybe you should try to be a little more considerate when choosing how you word and express how you feel. Especially when you are typing on a forum. Quote:

I cannot imagine not having him in my life, but I had him during some tough financial times....should I have given him away or taken him to a shelter that would just have euthanized him??? I think not. You do the best you can, and no one can fault you on that. I have 4 cats who are strictly indoors, and my Veterinarian has recommended that I do not need to keep my cats vaccinated since they NEVER go outside. 3 of the 4 are strays that I took in. At least they have a home, food and drink, and lots of love.....
