well prognosis was the worst possible. we did exploratory surgery tonight after the Veterinarian closed for the evening. he found an inoperable tumor on her spleen. there wasn't anything that could have been done no matter when it was found. it had caused some serious complications. she was euthenized this evening. she will be going out for cremation this week and i will have her back shortly there after. we did the best that could have been done.

in loving memory of lunch. the cat that could turn any cat hater soft at heart.....you will be missed

hello all, i'm new here and basically new to all of this, but very glad i've found you. first i'd like to say my heart goes out to lunch's mom, i truly feel your loss. A year ago i lost my dog jasmine to an unidentified illness, i finally had to put her down and belive me it was such a heartbreaking decision! Right now i am struggling with my 16 year old Siamese kitty, she was diagnosed with kidney disease about 2mos ago, and well i thought that was it for her the first time i took her in but amazingly enough she seems to have stabilized. The thing that worries me is that her weight is not the best and i think her arthritis is really affecting her, now every morning when i wake up and see her on the bed and purring i count it as a blessing because i don't know how much longer my precious and i will be together. again, i am so sorry about lunch , but remember there are always sunnier days ahead!

thank you all so much. i am very upset over the whole ordeal but it gives me some comfort knowing that i did everything that could have possibly been done and there wasn't any time it could have been stopped. she had a wonderful life and touched so many people.

i was 16 when i got her. i found her in a trailer park at 2am one early morning and decided she needed to be rescued. she was still a kitten but i wanted to give her a better life. so i drove home and woke my mom up to tell her we had a guest which i knew would be an interesting conversation as my mom is an avid bird breeder and didn't like cats. telling her while she was sleeping was my best option. i promised to take care of lunch and make sure she didn't eat the birds. i kept to my promise. not once did she ever show any interest in any of the birds. my mom grew to love her as one of her own. a year into owning her it was time to get her fixed. i took her in and the news i got was that she had feline aids (as i found out only a week ago it must have been a false positive). i took it hard at first then research. she was a single indoor cat so the odds were pretty good as long as she didn't get sick. even after i moved out, the kitty still lived with mom most of the time because she liked it best there. then my sister went through a rough break up and kitty turned into a loaner as my sister needed cheering up. then kitty went back to the mom's house. when she started getting sick 2 months ago, she came to my house until she was better. we thought it was just an infected gland in her mouth. it cleared up and she went back to being herself. i got a call a week ago and you all know the remaining course of events. she was an amazing cat (more like a dog because of how affectionate she was but still a tiny cat). she is in a better place not suffering anymore and she is with our old dog jordy who she loved dearly (when if find it i will upload a picture of her and jordy sleeping on eachother next to me on the couch...he was a dotson chiuahua mix-funny looking dog). she is survived now by tigger and veronica (my chinchilla pair) and snacks (the pet rat i rescued from being snake food from my roommate) among all the birds my mom has. i chose to have her cremated and returned to me as she wouldn't have liked having her ashes outside (she was deathly afraid of the outdoors) and burying her would still be outside. some people have called me crazy for all i did for her but i wouldn't have it any other way.

again thank you everyone for your support

I know exactly what you mean about not being able to bury her outside.

My kitty was an inside cat too. When i buried my beautiful sweetheart, Abby, a few months ago I made a point of it to bury her where grass wouldn't grow- she hated grass. She's buried on a spot she could see from her favorite window.

I'm curious, how did Lunch get her name? What about "Snacks"? :-) Unusual names, I like them.

lunch got her name because when i brought her home we had a rotweiler and my mom threatened to feed the cat to the dog if she ever got into her birds. i couldn't think of name and one day it just seemed like such a funny name. we all loved it. snacks is actually a new addition to my family. i got her only a few months ago. she was just a little snack to my roommates python. usually he fed the snake mice but for some reason he was going to try the rats, he had 4 of them. all beautiful white rats. the snake only got to eat three of them. plus when you come from an animal family (i can't even count how many birds are at my mom's house and she tries to name them all) you gotta get creative with the names.
