My cat has never had a problem in her 11 years. One day we noticed she didnt eat and wouldnt move much. Just layed and wouldnt lift her head. She wasnt even drinking. She went to the Veterinarian the next day. They kept her for a week on IV fluids, antacids, antibiotics. Blood work came back fine and Pancreatitis test was negative. She came home with a cold (poor thing). She got over her cold and was back to her old self! Now about 2 weeks later she has started not eating much. She wants to eat, begs when it's feeding time...takes a nibble and then turns her nose up. I tried all her favorites (cheetos, powdered donuts...nothing!) I have noticed she is drinking out of the bathroom sink more than she normally does. Not excessively but more often. She isnt as lethargic, she will follow me around and jump up on furniture...but sometimes she just sits on the floor staring down. She also seems to be "on guard". When she is trying to eat every noise makes her stop. When she jumps on the bed she will stand in one place and not move a muscle until we pet her and tell her its ok. I would think maybe she was a little depressed from having to stay at the doctor but she had already bounced back to her old self right after. I have an appointment at the Veterinarian in 4 days. My Veterinarian is out of town and i'd rather she see the Veterinarian that dealt with her a couple weeks ago. Anyone have any suggestions? I'm heartbroken to see her like this.

I wish I had something to suggest, but I don't. Hopefully someone here can help you.

is there anything else or is she just not eating and lathargic? when lunch started having problems it was just an infection in her mouth, meds and a few weeks later she was fine, then she was sick again. all bloodwork was fine on her. she had a lot of other symptoms though. i would definately get to the bottom of what is wrong....waiting too long if she is suffering is cruel. do some research on other vets in your area, there may be someone who has some different answers that could lead to an explaination.

Keep a close eye on her and if she refuses to eat or drink at all, you may have to force feed her until the Veterinarian gets back. Cats dehydrate very quickly, and you can also give her Pedialite (unflavored) watered down half and half to keep her electrolytes up.

luckily she is drinking and eating just a nibble now and then. She otherwise is acting pretty normal. She isnt as lovable but makes attempts more often than not. I just cant wait to get to the Veterinarian tonight. As bad as I feel upsetting her again with the Veterinarian visit, It's killing me to think that something is hurting her. I will update after tonight!

Foods typically recommended by vets in such cases- is fish, and cooked/or raw liver. It is unknown as to why, but the longer a cat refrains from eating, the more difficult it is to get them to start again. Any missed meal is serious since due to their small size cats they lose weight much faster than humans. Good luck with your kitty. Please keep us posted. ![]() |

This has not been my experience, as a matter of fact, I have a cat that won't eat smelly food. However, I agree that sometimes they change their taste...mine used to do it all the time. I would just get used to buying a certain type of food, and all of a sudden they wouldn't eat that anymore...I learned to buy the smallest bags I could so not a lot went to waste when they decided not to eat it. Thankfully, they haven't been like that since we moved back north from down south. *crossing my fingers*

Sadly, after an xray and ultrasound, she has lymphoma of the bowel. We had to put her to sleep on Saturday as she went down hill so fast. Prednizone was not working and she was very very weak.
