Hi, My name is Jessica and i'm a new member. I decided to join after I looked at some of the posts and thought it would be a good place to talk about my cat Ginger. She's about a year and ten months old. Almost a year ago she had a litter of 6 kittens and we kept 2 of them. The trouble is recently she's been pulling her hair out on her back near her tail in 2 spots. I'm not sure what to think. She is a Siamese mix cat with the beige, brown, and white fur. ( brown tips except for a white tip on her tail

I have 2 cats that do the same thing and it is a hard problem to solve. I have taken them to the Veterinarian and the vets are going through the steps to try and solve the issue. So far, my cats have been checked for mites and given steriods. The steriods worked for about a month and now one of them is starting to lick her hair off again...after it was growing back so nicely! I will be taking her back to the Veterinarian next week...

Thanks for the reply. I've been reading some of the other posts that are similar to my cat's problems, but all of them mention some sort of change in the cat's life, such as moving or a new person or animal. my cat has had no change. we havn't moved or anything. Did your Veterinarian mention anything as to why your cat is doing this?? Ginger is still eating and sleeping and playing like normal. nothing else seems to be wrong with her other than licking her hair out in those 2 spots.

I am not a Veterinarian, but it could be an allergy. I had a kitty that a bare belly and and the underneath of her legs were always bare. She was allergic to kitty litter.
But it is possible that there is something else going on with your kitty, because I haven't come across any cats that have the hair pulling symptoms... and have the grease you're describing. |

Hi, I have just found your forums and am so truly grateful for them. I was feeling a little lost until I did.
Both of my boys just started "going bald" about a month ago. They are both strictly indoor only. At first I thought it was fleas (my mother in law brought her dog over one day) so I treated them both with Advantage. The hair has never came back. We bathed them today to see if that would help. Still the same, although they are not pulling out their hair quite as much as before. That could be just because they get terribly unnerved when they get a bath. The bald spots seem to be centered on their back ends and stomachs. Their ages are 13 and 10. I haven't changed their food or litter. Anyone else have any ideas as to what could cause this problem? |

My siamese pulled her hair out like this and they thought it was food allergies. A trip to a different Veterinarian revealed that she had a fungus in her mouth that transferred to her skin when she washed herself. The fungus then irritated her skin and she began pulling out her hair. The Veterinarian treated the fungus, she stopped pulling out the hair and it's now growing back just fine.
