I have a 20 year old short hair domestic. Saturday I noticed she had a watery right eye, and it was very dark (black almost). She normally has green eyes. She hadn't eaten since Friday afternoon, nor was she drinking. I took her to an emergency Veterinarian hospital and they couldn't tell me what was wrong with her. They did some tests, said that normal ocular pressure for felines is around 20, that eye had a 90. They give me some drops to relieve the pressure but all the other tests came up normal. She didn't eat all day Saturday, so I tried force feeding her, didn't work well, she bit me several times. All she did is sleep. Sunday, her third day of not eating I noticed she couldn't walk, her right side wasn't working very well. She still wasn't eating or drinking anything. I tried feeding her again, but it didn't work. Today she's walking normally, her eye is still very dark, but it's not being held shut anymore. I don't know what to do...has anyone come across something similar...How do I get her to eat?

I think you need to see a different Veterinarian. That amount of pressure isn't good. From what you've said, your kitty is showing signs of being in pain.
Regards to food. Ask for a prescription of an appetite stimulant. Also, cats are smell based eaters. If they are sick and can't smell, they won't eat. For this reason, vets typically recommend offering smelly food (fresh, just smells more) like fish and raw liver. Please post back and let us know what happens. Good luck with your kitty. |

I'm a new member, as of today. I opened your thread, because one of my cats has an eye problem, which is chronic. Nothing serious. Your kitty's problem sounds major. I hope she survives okay.

Sounds like a stroke, to me, too....They get ataxic and it can resolve a little bit later...Maybe the eye was affected or if the pressure got too high, she could have had a blood vessel stroke from it. I would get a second opinion...
