We just found out last week that my female calico has cancer.
This came to me as very disturbing. She's 11 years old. Started out just a little bump over her left eye. Took her to her Veterinarian when first noticed it.
She had suggested that it might be bone cancer but wasn't sure. Veterinarian said keep an eye on it if it gets worse, bring back her in to office. So after the 3rd visit to the Veterinarian for her to say not sure what it was. I finally said look can't you refer me to someone that could tell me what was wrong with Callie.
Well took her to a specialist and after a biopsy it was confirmed that it's cancer. As you all probably know this is very expensive. I've looked into getting cat insurance. But all say it's pre-existing condition. Is there any body out there that can help me find someway of getting some financial help with this. Doctor is saying need bloodwork, x-rays, ct scan, and the surgery plus chemo and maybe radiation. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Thank-you
Pam Callie is the kittys name

Default Callie

Dear Pam, Regarding the expense of the treatment for your cat, have you contacted a university veterinary hospital? Since they are a teaching facility, they may be able to provide the testing and/or treatment your cat needs for free or for a fraction of the cost. I don't KNOW that this this for sure but have been told by others that not only is a teaching veterinary hospital the best of the best places to go but it is financially reasonable as well. My prayers are with you and Callie.

Rusty, Is there an emergency animal hospital near you? There should be some service available for off-hours. I think your cat needs to be seen ASAP.

Default Pierre

My cat Pierre is about 15 years old. This morning when I left for work he had 2 green eyes. Tonight when I came home he had 1 green eye and 1 brownish red eye. There is no swelling or discharge nor is he exibiting any signs of illness or injury. I called the Veterinarian but can't get him in until Thursday morning and without seeing him they won't comment. I understand that but I am worried as he is an older kitty. Does anyone know what this could be?

It is possible that the color change isn't something to worry about. My 19 year old american shorthair's eyes change colors all the time. This started happening when he was an older adult cat. His eyes are yellow... and brown splotches appear, move, and disapear every so often. The Veterinarian said that the brown is freckles and that instead of getting freckles on their skin, cats get them in their eyes.

Let us know what your Veterinarian says. Hopefully you have nothing to worry about. :-)
