I have a 2 yr old cat that gave birth to 4 kittens 2 1/2 weeks ago, since then she is rapidly losing weight. I leave large bowls of food for her in the morning (3 or 4 cupsful) and she is usually looking for more food by evening, she is often thirsty. Prior to giving birth to the kittens she began losing fur on her back side and around her tail. I was looking at other posted messages and saw a question related to diabetes, has anyone experienced this situation with a cat? Thanks:

Unfortunatly I don't know anything about diabetes in cats, but I DO know a bit about cats having kittens, (and people having babies)
It takes a tons of food and water to keep her full enough to feen those little beasts and since they are getting older they WILL eat more, which in turn will take more from her... btw her tummy WILL sag alittle after too, my cat took on an almost hollw tummy look for a little while after her kittens. Obviously keep an eye on it and if someone who knows about diabetes has some info, please post. At 4 weeks depending on the kittens though slowly start offering the kitten small amounts of canned food. Also what are you feeding her? I know as a mother the need for vitamins and nutrience goes skyrocketing when having and feeding babies from our bodies. Common sence says the same goes for any animal! Hope this helps a touch! |

While she is feeding her kittens, over feeding in my opinion is ok, I would let her eat as much as she needs to!
