Default In denial, probably

Hello All, new to this forum and first time posting. My cat was diagnosed with kidney disease about a year and a half ago. At the time, we changed his diet to prescription food which increased his water intake. He responded very positively and has been great. Over the past couple of weeks, however, began to turn up his nose to his prescription food, for the most part stopped earing, but continued to drink. Knowing he had to eat something, I picked up a couple of cans of high quality food. He kinda picked at it - but no great shakes. We went to the Veterinarian last Friday, he was diagnosed as dehydrated so received fluids (under the skin) and a med the tech compared to Pepsid for upset stomachs to which he reacted favorably over the weekend. He continues to yell and meow for food (first thing in the morning, dinnertime, races me to the kitchen), as he normally does, but when I offer him anything - tuna, salmon, various varieties of catfood), he sniffs, then walks away. Its as if he's hungry, begging me to feed him, and wants to eat, but doesn't. I would say he's lethargic, but probably due to lack of eating. I have another call into the Veterinarian, but am thinking its the kidney thing rearing its ugly head. Any ideas?

I don't know. :-(

You've done a great job, keeping your kitty going the past year and a half. I have a kitty going through kidney failure as well, but somehow he keeps going.

It is heartening that your kitty is still trying, is still telling you that s/he is hungry. But I really don't have anything to tell you other than to keep trying, keep offering different kinds of food. And perhaps ask your Veterinarian for an appetite stimulant (I know you said that your kitty acts hungry, but maybe the pill will push him/her over the edge to eat).

Good luck. Let us know what happens and hang in there.
