Unhappy Is he going to be okay?!

Yesterday I noticed my cat spitting up little piles of bubbly saliva. At first I thought it was just a hairball, because later he did cough up a small hairball, but then he did the spitting up thing again afterwards. Also, my mother told me that he tried to use his litterbox, and again, all that came out was that white, spitty stuff. Also, I'm not entirely sure, but I think he hasn't eaten since Tuesday.

Mom thinks there might be something wrong with his kidneys. What do you guys think it is? Any suggestions for fixing it?

Thank-you for any help you can give me!

-Simone

A trip to te Veterinarian would probably be the first place to start.

Alright, I'll try to do that, but the soonest I can get him there would be tomorrow. Is there anything I can do today to get him to eat until I see a Veterinarian?

If your cat is still vomiting, you shouldn't try to get him to eat at all. It would probably just trigger more vomiting, and that will lead to dehydration.

You do need to check to see if he's dehydrated already, though. Pull the skin on his back straight up, like a tent, then release it. If it stays tented, he's dehydrated.

Also check the whites of his eyes; are they white (normal) bloodshot or yellowish in color. Bloodshot eyes can indicate stress, dehydration, infection, while yellowing of the eyes indicates a possible liver problem. In cases of serious dehydration the eyes may appear to be sunken and/or dry.

Check his gums. They should be pink, not pale, white, yellow or bright red.

If he can't keep water down, if his skin tents, he has bloodshot eyes or his eyes appear to be sunk into his head, and his gum color is white or bright red, he needs to see a Veterinarian NOW, not tomorrow.
