Angry New 2yo cat in new home not eating

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anybody would know about this - I got a 2 year old cat yesterday. She has come out from her hiding place a few times, but usually to go and sit in a different corner. She hasn't eaten anything or used her litter tray, and it's coming up to 24 hours now. I have been talking to her and spending time in the same room, just typing or reading etc, but she seems very scared. I know it's natural because of a big change but I really would like to know if there's anything I'm not doing, or am doing wrong?

I've put out wet food twice now which she hasn't touched at all. In the night she has been giving the odd meow which has woken me up, and I'll talk to her and call her name etc but she goes quiet and still won't come out of hiding. I'm worried because she hasn't eaten anything and it's been over 24 hours, I hear it can start affecting their liver if this continues.

Any suggestions would be appreciated! She doesn't like me petting her and shys away whenever i reach out to her.

Warm a small amount of canned food or some tuna and put it in one of her hiding places. Then leave the area for at least an hour. She may not feel safe enough to eat when you're around, so leaving her alone with the food may get her to eat a little. Warming the food will make it smell more tempting, and food that smells better tastes better.

It also might help to just leave her alone for a few days, until she starts feeling a little less stressed. Ignore her as much as possible, and let her decide when to come to you.

If she doesn't eat anything for 3 days, then you have to start worrying about fatty liver disease. Call your Veterinarian and ask for advice.
