Default Cat with asthma

My cat has asthma. Most of the time he's fine, but last year on a very hot, muggy evening, he came upstairs (he wasn't feeling well and was hiding in the basement), stared at me and my husband, vomited, then flopped on his side and it was obvious that he had great difficulty breathing. I took him to the emergency Veterinarian where they gave him oxygen and I think ibuterol. Anyway, it's very hot and humid again and he's showing signs of having difficulty breathing. He seems to enjoy the air conditioned bedroom and it seems to help. I'm very concerned because we will be on vacation in 10 days. My mom will be looking after the cats but she won't be here 24 hours a day. My husband doesn't want to pay for any kind of kennel. I'm very concerned about the heat and humidity and if there is something that I can do. Lately he's been staring at me and meowing (not a happy meow, more like a cry) as if expects me to do something about his discomfort (it's very hot and sticky).

I used to live in South Carolina, hot humid. My cat was diagnosed with asthma and I was given prednisone ONLY for bad episodes. Shortly after, we move back to PA and as long as I kept windows fairly well closed, he seemed to have no problems. So windows closed and air conditioning helped him. Or you could speak with your Veterinarian and see if you could get your cat the albuterol given at the emergency Veterinarian or a prescription for something else. The prednisone the Veterinarian gave my cat was only for bad attacks and I never had to give him more than one course of it. The Veterinarian told me that I didn't want to give it any more often than absolutely neccesary due to the side efects. I would consider a visit to the regular Veterinarian.
