Default First Litter- 7 kittens. Healthy?

My cat is just over a year old and gave birth to her first litter today- a litter of 7 kittens. She's only a small cat, so will the size of the litter have an impact on her health??

When I was younger, I had a small dog- a silky terrier X poodle- who gave birth to a litter of 6 puppies. We had to take the puppies away from her and hand rear them as they were draining too much calcium from her and made her sick. We also had to give her calcium supplements.

So I was wondering if anyone knew if we'll have to do the same for our cat??

Any information will be appreciated.

I don't know the answer to your question, but your kitty is really young to already be a mother. I've been told that cats and dogs should not be bred until they're 2 years old, an age where they've finished growing and genetic deficiencies have had time to appear.

I would take your kitty and kittens to the Veterinarian to be checked over. They will need shots anyway. But also, you may just want to ring the Veterinarian's office to ask them what they think.

Best of luck to you, let us know what happens :-).
