Unhappy 3 legged kitty

i've just adopted a three legged kitty yesterday and i'm worried about her. She doesn't eat a lot, she's underweight (dropped from 3.2 lb to 2.75) and she can't play or jump very well because she's lost a front limb. she's ultra quiet and she hides a lot. what shall i do?

Hi :-) congratulations on the new addition to your family.

Did she lose that much weight in the 1 day you've had her? If so, that's a drastic weight loss for a kitty in a very short period of time and warrants a visit to the Veterinarian. But also, feed her what she was fed before you got her... if you want to change it to something else, make the change to the new food over a period of time by mixing increasing amounts of the new food in with the old.

As for her shyness- I'd give her time, don't approach her too much and let her approach you on her terms. Poor kitty sounds like she's been through the mill- lots of changes in her surroundings and with her own body (assuming the limb was removed rather than a birth defect).

Hope she improves, keep us posted. :-)
