New Kitty

My roommate and I just got a new kitty about 4 days ago. All he does is just camp out in the bathroom. My roommate said that they need to be in a small place because the big rooms can be overwhelming to a new cat. He won't go to the bathroom or eat very much. Is this caused by stress?
