Default sick 6mth old kittens

I have 2 white male kittens who up till yesterday were of perfect health, they are house cats have never been out, 1 Of them was very lethargic yesterday (unlike him)and started shaking and sleeping alot and felt very hot so I took him to the vets they Veterinarian could not diagnose him with anything as the only symptom was high temp 40.2 so he gave him and antibiotic and another inj to bring the temp down, last night he was fine although quiet I kept the other kitten away from him,
He slept well and ate well last night, then again this morning very ill with high temp and his brother is the same shaking and very very sleepy,so I took them both to the vets and they both had the same temp 40.2 so more injections given and I've come home The one that took bad today is now looking quite lively and ate very well, the other ate well although is still sleepy, its lovely to see them perking up but why do they still get the high temp( obviously when the drug stops working) there must be a underlying cause but there is not a single other sign or symptom ( lovely clear eyes ears skin etc)
has anyone had experience of this as they seem fine when the temp is down

Fever is a symptom of a lot of different things. When they are not displaying any other signs, it really is hard to tell. Sounds like their bodies could just be fighting off an infection (which hasn't developed into the full-blown infection yet - you may see signs later)...so antibiotics sounds like a good idea. You may just have to help them stay comfortable until other signs appear. If the fever persists despite antibiotics, blood work might be a good idea. If the fevers do go down, make sure you keep them on the full round of antibiotics....don't just stop when they appear better. My understanding is that if you stop an antibiotic early, the infection can re-emerge and you start all over again!

My experience with this forum is that questions generally don't get answered. I'm not sure there is a lot of activity here. I posted a question about my sick kitten Zoey 3 weeks ago, and no one has replied.

If you want a place to discuss your cat's illness, I find www.thecatsite.com/forums has a lot of activity, as well as Pet information - dog information - cat information - Canada's pet information center for dogs cats and humans.

I hope your kittens are OK.

Edited to add: When Zoey had a fever above 103, my Veterinarian said that at that level, they really don't feel like doing very much. Think of how you feel when you have a fever. So, the lethargy may very well be a result of the fever, which may explain why they are more lively when their temp is down.

Default Uri

A lot of kittens get an uper respitory infection. mine got it when she was a kitten and sometimes there are no signs because mine just got it again 5 years later, because it stays dormant in their body untill something brings it back out such as stress, and this time she had no symptoms other then being tired. I would suggest a URI as a possibility to your doctor
