I have recently adopted a three legged kitten. He is 5 months old . He had trauma to his left foreleg and due to his previous owners neglect, aquired an infection. The amputation was aresult of this infection. I have had him for 2 weeks and 2 days ago I noticed redness and inflammation @ the site of the amputation. I took him to my Veterinarian, who placed him on antibiotics and told me to apply heat several times a day. My dilemna is; how do you apply heat to a Kitten..................? and with what?
Thanks, MM |

everyone I meet that has either a three legged dog or cat seems to always name it Tripod...There are heat "patchs" in Winn Dixie (and I am sure other grocery stores) Wal-mart also has them. You might want to find a small one, use velco straps or bandage tape to hold it on. (be creative) You sound like a very caring person for taking in a pet like that. I wish you years of enjoyment with your new friend! ![]()

You might try some of those hand warmers that are used while hunting, skiiing ect and the idea of velcro or wrap some gause around the pad and the leg then you can tape it with-out the fur getting stuck. Good Luck with your new baby...

An easy way to apply heat and have the cat still be comfortable (although he may not like water) take either epsom salt or regular table salt and mix it with warm water then soke a wash cloth in it rig it out, then apply it to the infected area. i am suggesting to use apsom alt or table salt because it there is an infection it will help to "pull" the infection out and help it to heal much quiker. also if you dont have and types of salts sugar tends to work to. Hope this helps you out!

Becareful using "Hot Hands" or similar products. They get very hot and can burn the tender new skin. If you want to use them, put a washcloth or towel between the skin and the heat source.
