Default Broken Jaw

My outdoor cat was missing for two days appeared back in our yard with a broken jaw. The Veterinarian thinks she was probably hit by a car and is doing surgery now to fix it. I read an earlier blog of a cat with an injuried jaw that had to be put down because it wouldn't eat. What is the prognosis of this type of injury? I don't want to cause my pet undo suffering just to keep her with me longer. This is upsetting time for me and I would like any information to help me in her recovery

Default Broken jaw

The problem with broken jaws is these cats may not eat for 10-14 days. Many vets will put a temporary feeding tubes in these cats where you can feed them a liquid diet by the tube until the jaws heals and they start eating again. Generally these cats need to be kept up or inside while the tube in place. Most broken jaws heal great. Ask your Veterinarian.

Owen Enterprises, you are absolutely right. I the veterinary and often face such problem. Recovery of a cat take place 2-4 weeks. At this time it is necessary to feed it through a pipette. Look after them as for small children

Continue to use the pipette until you can see the cat getting interested in her bowl again. Never let her get hungry. She could die in a matter of days of liver disease if she doesn't eat. Also make sure she has a bowl of fresh water every day to drink.
