Default Feline Urinary health problems

Our cat is approx. 8yrs old and has had urinary tract health problems several times in his life. His last visit to the Veterinarian. he had a catheter inserted and was prescibedsome purple pill. This was about 2wks ago. He has been put on Hill cd for his diet but I read that dry food can cause this. Should he be drinking well water or bottled. We are very poor so taking him to the Veterinarian again will be very hard on us but we do not want to lose him. Please help us, any suggestions are welcome.

The problem is not dry food, but the quality of dry food. It has to do with the amount of Ash and Magnesium in the food, but I'm not sure what the proper quantities are. He should be drinking as much water as possible, but tap water should be fine. Does he drink much water? You might try getting a little table top fountain to encourage him, cats often prefer fresh water to stale water in a bowl. You might talk to your Veterinarian about wether to feed him a little canned food in addition to the dry to increase his moisture intake.

Thumbs up Poor Kitty

Thank-you. I do'nt see him drink as much as our female, we will have to try the fountain idea, I know that the female likes to play in the water with her paws but now that I think about it he does'nt drink all that much. The cat food that we were feeding him was for urinary problems but the Veterinarian. said that the brand we were feeding him he had never heard anything about it helping anyone and thats when he told us about Hills cd. He has only had it for 2 days now so we will watch him and see how he does. Thank you for yor insight. We sure hope this helps him out he has had it enough times.

Default payments

my parents cat had that a few times and finally they had to make him into a her (sex change)... it was a very expencive surgery but the Veterinarian we went to let us make payments. and since they have been using special food and kitty litter just so that there other male cat wont get it. and both have been fine since. but what i would suggest is to find a Veterinarian that will let you make payments and see if this surgery is right for your cat. i know how pricy the Veterinarian can be. i just moved out of my parents house and got a kitten from the pound and it was very sick and we eventually had to put her to sleep, there was nothing they could do. and just for x-rays and what not it cost me about 600 dollars, but they let me make payments wich was great bc the low amount of income that i have and having to start paying other bills. but i would deffintly try and find a Veterinarian that will allow payments. good luck

I also have a male cat with urinary track problems. there are three MAJOR things that can cause a UTI here are three things that may help and will not cost to much, 1.) cats do not like to urinate in a dirty Litter box, if ur little kitty is an indoor cat you have to make sure that you clean the litter box on a regular basis, because if he is an indoor cat that is the only place where he knows he can urinate so he will hold it and this is what can cause a UTI. 2.) The food he is eating, he may like it but there are many foods out there that claim that they are good but you need to make sure that they are to help prevent a UTI. Also i have a couple suggestions for food at your local Veterinarian you are usually able to buy "Science Diet" cat food it is a very good food, although after a while my cat started to not like it and i think there was something in it he may have been alergict to, but it is a very good food. So like i said look for foods that are i guess you could say perscribed for UTI's 3.) You need to make sure he is drinking fresh clean water, faucet water is fine you just need to make sure to give him fresh water every day because there is a bacteria that can grow in the water and could possibly be an adding factor to a UTI. I hope this helps you, and i hope ur kitty gets better soon !!!!
