Nasty Kitty

Hello everyone I am new at this. I have a domestic cat she is almost 12 years old and her name is Cybil,her name says everything. She don't like to be pick up,when ever someone comes to the house she hides. Threw the years she has developed asthma once I open that pill bottle she is gone, the coughing noise is unbearble. Cybil also likes to poop beside her cat box,this has been going on for years. The basement stinks so bad I don't even want to live their. I have been debating to have Cybil put down. I have taken her to the Veterinarian they just say it's a behavior problem. I am not able to give her the pills for her asthma because she hides. I am sick of cleaning the basement everyday,and lately she has runs. I did forget to mention 2 years ago I got a dog a lab Brandy she's a good girl. Cybil hates the dog,lets just say Cybil has been hiding for 2 years. I just feel she hasn't had a live in a long time. If anyone has any adivse or suggestions please help me.

Can you find new ways to give her the pill? In a treat, maybe? A Pill-Pocket? Some tuna? Can it be crushed up into food? Cats can be SO challenging to give pills to.

The litterbox issue is probably behavioral and that's hard to change. I have a cat who likes to perch on the side of the box, only he faces the wrong way and goes beside the box. Maybe put some newspaper down? Also, make sure the box is very clean and scooped out daily, if the box is dirty the cat will not want to use it.

I would look at euthanasia as an absolute last resort. It sounds like the cat still has a pretty good life, except for the asthma. Has your Veterinarian given you any suggestions about how to get those pills to her? What about the litterbox situation? Could she perhaps become an outside kitty? Maybe if you don't live near a busy road or have a fenced area, she could stay outside most or all of the time?

Maybe you can try a different kind of litter box...or get her another one so she has two to choose from and keep them very clean like the post below suggests. What kind of litter box do you have and what type of litter do you use? As for the pill, I don't know have much to suggest except maybe once you see her walking around, put her in a closed bathroom while you open the bottle so she has no where to hide. Good luck, it sounds like her life is still good for her...my mom's two cats you barely even see...all they do is sleep and hide, it's a cat's way
