As of last Wednesday, our dog has been behaving really strangely. He is 7 years old and is usually very calm, resting throughout the day and sleeping well at night in one of our rooms.
Now, he has sudden changes where he doesn't know what to do with himself. We call it hyperactive, as he's become restless, cannot find his place, tries to rest with one of us but keeps moving. Rather than sleep at night, he wanders from room to room and if he does lie down, his ears perk up as though he's hearing something. He is also panting and barks irregularly. He also attempts to be clingy and climbs all over us, only to leap away a moment later. It has been happening more frequently as of Sunday. If anyone has any suggestions or could provide any help, it would be greatly appreciated! |

There are any number of medical conditions that fit the symptoms you describe. Two that come to mind are cushings and epilepsy. I would highly recommend that you discuss these episodes with your Veterinarian, who will undoubtedly do a complete senior panel. Please let us know what you find out.

There are some possible reasons why your dog has become restless. Some of which are boredom, dog might not be getting enough exercise or possible suffering from a hormone imbalance. Make sure that your gets enough exercise end fed at the right time. As what busters had said, try to discuss this with the veterinarian.

Quite a group of behavioral changes! Often a dog will start barking randomly when he starts losing his hearing. He thinks he hears something when there really isn't anything to hear. Could be wax build up in his ears, plugged eustachian tubes, even the change from low to high pressure as storm conditions go through the area will affect this. In fact, all of behaviors you have listed would be reasonably normal during a stormy period. What's your weather doing where you live?
