Default Please help...

I would appreciate any feedback for this situation. We have a pit bull he is 6yrs. old. About a year ago he started losing weight quickly. He also started vomiting and would have the runs every now and then. My husband took him to the Veterinarian and had a series of blood tests done and everything came out normal. We have had x-rays done also and they came out normal. We were thinking maybe there was something stuck in his digestive track. To this day we cannot figure out what is wrong with him. We have him on special dog food that his Veterinarian perscribed. It is for digestive problems. He throws up almost every night after dinner. He cannot seem to hold anything down. he does not get the runs but he does have trouble going to the rest room he strains himself, My husband said he noticed that he also strains when he urinates. He seems alert and still wants to go walking. He still barks at the men when they mow the lawn next door, but he is getting skinnier everyday. We are at wits end because we can't seem to figure out what is wrong with him. If anyone can please help us with any suggestions we will try anything to help him. He is such a loving dog it hurts me to see him this way. Thank you....

Hi,
I would get him to another Veterinarian for a second opinion right away. If possible get a referal to an internal specialist. If its been going on for a year, its not likely a blockage. It could be a lot of things, but it will take some detective work to figure it out. My 'pitador' Samantha was just diagnosed with lymphoma, and it took about 6 weeks for us to figure out what was wrong with her. Pit bulls are very stoic and don't show pain very much, so its likely there is more wrong with him than he is showing. Believe me, I know! I have 4 pit bulls, one of which Sydney has had every orthopedic surgery known to man. We never knew how bad her elbow was till they removed the joint and replaced it with an artificial joint. Her orthopedic surgeon had never seen a joint so destroyed before in his career.

I have a cat that acted the very same way. Turns out he has a hyperactive thyroid. He is on medicine everyday, and is stating to put the weight back on. Thyroid disease can kill, so it is good to get it treated. If all the blood work came out normal, then maybe they did not check it (I don't know if it is a standard test) or maybe you need to get a second opinion. My Skeeter had had bloodwork that appeared normal, also. So either make sure they have checked it, or go to another Veterinarian. I hope it works out well, keep us informed!

we also had a pit that showed the same traits, after surgery they thought was a blockage, it turned out to be cancer, I'm not saying that is what it is, but you should really think about finding a good internal med Veterinarian , hope everything turns out for your baby.

I had a yellow lab (11 years old, had her less than a year). She started doing the same thing on a Friday morning. As she had a habit of eating socks, I thought maybe she had graduated to a t-shirt! Took her to the Veterinarian, x-rays, blood work, etc. etc. Went back on Saturday, he still wasn't sure, but there was no sign of blockage.

She woke me up early Monday morning, and died a few minutes later. I took her back to the Veterinarian for cremation. He felt so bad he did an autopsy - turned out to be cancer in the liver and the pancreas.

I agree that a second or even third opinion is necessary. Abby's was too far gone to treat even had it been diagnosed. I'm just grateful that she didn't suffer.
