Default rabies vaccine reaction?

In June of this year, my wife was walking for exercise after work when she noticed a little scruffy chihuahua mix following behind her. The little guy was obviously abandoned, probably related to the huge housing forclosure issue around Stockton, CA.. Well, a second day of following my wife during her exercise routine resulted in her bringing the dog home while she tried to find placement for him. We had 2 dogs at home and felt 1 more would be too much. Well, we fell in love with him and wouldn't get rid of him for anything after just a few days.
He seemed very healthy and happy. We took him to the Veterinarian to have him searched for a chip (as we suspected there was not one)and to have him vaccinated. We also decided to have him "chipped". Within about 2 - 3 weeks, we noticed that he developed little sores on his ear tips. He also started losing a little bit of hair on his back between his shoulders. The bare spot on his back had gradually got bigger and sore spots come and go on his ears and on this bare spot. Of course we have taken him to the Veterinarian several times including once to have him neutered. After a biopsy, our veterinarian told us that as near as they could tell, it was due to a reaction from the rabies vaccine. He has been on 2 different antibiotics for the past 3 months along with a special shampoo. ( currently Cephalexin & Ketochlor shampoo ). He is also on steroids. We are very concerned about this as he is still getting the sores and it has been 6 months since the vaccine. He has been on medication most of the time we have had him and I worry about the long term effects of all this medicine. I would like to attach pictures of his back, but I am not sure how to attach these. Does anyone have any thoughts on this condition? Any possibility that it could be the chip?

Oh... Good to know that you adopted this abandoned dog. He already found a new home at your care.

What does the Veterinarian exactly said about your dog's situation?

There are dogs that really react on the vaccines that are given to them especially the dog you got is not used to vaccines since she was an abandoned dog. The sore spots is probably also the effect of the "chipping" that was done to her and the medications that was given to her.
