Default Dog Panting Shaking Being Clingy

Our dog, an eleven year old boxer mix, started acting funny the past couple of days. She wants to go outside, but then doesn't want to come in. She will just sit (even though it is in the single digits temperature-wise) and has to be carried in. Inside, she has become very clingy (won't leave our side), pants a lot, and shakes. Any clues from anyone will help. Waiting for Veterinarian to open to make an appointment to take her in, but would like to hear advice in meantime.

Has anything changed inside your home? Dogs can be sensitive to all sorts of things, new smells from new carpet, flooring, new soaps, new cleaners of any sort. change in family dynamics, new person, baby, spouse, cat, other dog, etc. Even new electrical equipment could be causing it if there is an unusual electrical field or something.

Even old things that have been placed in a new position. For example, a basket placed on a shelf that used to be on the floor.
Anything like that?

I hope you still visit this site. My 5 year old border collie mix is currently doing the same thing but its not all the time. he shakes and pants, and sometimes when we go outside, he doesnt want to come in. he actually walks away from me. my Veterinarian says its allergies. he is presently on benedryl and this seems to help. i am taking him back to the Veterinarian next week for a follow up. it bothers me that he acutally walks away from me outside. usually, when we are outside, you have to be in his sight or he comes looking for you. i am curious as to what your Veterinarian said. thanks.

My grandmothers 11 year old Jack Russell is doing this. Her shaking is the worst symptom. Usually her tail is straight up and ears perked. Now she just walks around ears back shaking with her tail tucked between her legs. She won't play and she used to play all the time.(she is obsessed with ball). She goes outside and won't come in. She barely eats or drinks.

Default Safe enviroment?

Have you been spraying any pesticides lately? She could have allergies or sensitive to chemicals in your home like cleaners or fabric softner or air freshners, etc, etc.. Has she had any treatments for fleas or have you put a flea collar on her, etc, etc.

These can also be signs of pain.

Unhappy

My 12 year old Lakeland Terrier for the last 4-5 days has been panting, shaking and crying constantly, eventually she settles down and will fall asleep in her bed but as soon as she wakes up she starts it again, she still is eating & drinking like normal but starting to worry there may be something wrong?

Have booked a check up with the Veterinarian just to be safe.

there must have been some change in your house to make her feel insecure. you should try walking her around this house to make her more familiar with the place. just give it some time, maybe she'll get used to whatever change has been made in your house.

Hi there,

Im going through the same thing with my dog. I let her out and she doesnt want to come in, once I get her in she wants back out. Its constant. Also she is very clingy, cries and shakes when I leave the house. Constantly grabbing stuff out of my room to get my attention. Now she is not always like that, it comes and goes. Could it possibly be because of a separation in my marriage, Its been over a year. Do they ever get over it? Its just so sad to see her like that. Hopefully someone has an answer!
