My 3 month old puppy has somehow earned himself a black eye in the time I was at school. I have told my grandmother, who stays with him while I am away, to make sure he remains confined in the living room. However, this seems to be unimportant to her, as she allows him to roam free on the two different levels of our house. I've put an ice pack on his affected eye, but it doesn't seem to be doing much. Short of going to the Veterinarian, what else can I do? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I'm waiting for my mother to come home to take him to the Veterinarian.

Ice is good, but is the eye itself okay? Any swelling around it? Any discharge from the eye? And when you say a "black eye", is there obvious discoloration? Has the dog been allowed to run off leash outside among other animals?
A "black eye" isn't a usual occurrence for a dog. Is it possible that anyone would have hit this dog? Please invest in a dog crate and don't rely on unwilling family members to train and care for your dog while you are out. Your dog may object to the crate initially, but dogs are den animals and ultimately will find comfort as well as safety in having a crate space that belongs to them. |
