Red Bumps on Dog's Tongue

Hi, I just noticed raised red bumps on my 14 month old border collie's tongue. They almost look like ulcers. Wondering if he is deficient in something? He is a very skinny dog despite all our efforts. He has a checkup with the Veterinarian in two weeks, wondering if I should try and get in sooner.
