Default Please help..dog w/diarrhea.Food related?

Hi everybody,

My 12 year old dog has pretty severe diarrhea and in general does not seem well. She is drinking more water than usual (which I assume is because of the diarrhea) but not an excessive amount. She is not moving around as much as normal. She did eat this evening. I called the Veterinarian and they told me to watch her a day or 2 and if she is still not better or something changes drastically to bring her in.

I know that she didn't get any food around the house..the only thing that changed was her food. I normally feed her the senior Science Diet.We were out and my husband got Iams Active Maturity instead. While she does have a very sensitive system, Penny always tolerates food changes like this and we used to give her Iams all the time. I don't know whether it is coincidence but my cat ate a bit of food from Penny's dish and she has had diarrhea also but it went away quickly. I figured it was just from eating dog food. I have checked looking for a recall on this food and found nothing.

Just wondered if any of you knew of a possible recall and any ideas for helping with the diarrhea. I've heard of giving pumpkin, but wasn't sure if this was actually safe or not. I did fix some brown rice for her but she wouldn't touch it.

I agree with you on that! I would never feed my dog Iams.

Hello, I think your dog may be allergic to something in those brands of foods you are feeding her/ him.
Science diet and Iams are not good foods. Vets get paid alot of money to promote them that is why they push those foods.
They were also on the recall list of what not to feed your dogs.

I would try something like California Natural - It is a natural hypoallergenic dog food and is good for dogs with sensitive stomachs

Deffinetly take her off the other foods.
Let me know how she does on california natural.
