Okay....I have a reoccuring problem with my chocolate lab. She is 3.5 years old and in good shape. I am thinking she is possiblely getting low level poisoning via our bug spray guy. The first time they did the house, they used granules.....no problems. But the last 2 times, they've sprayed the yard. I am careful to keep the dogs in the house during this time. But even a couple weeks later, my lab will play with a toy or something, a stick even. She will come in the house swallowing, low level drooling...NO FROTHING. Her bowel movements are fine..no blood or diarhhea. Her appetite and eyes, gums, everything seems normal. The only thing is that her dewlaps 'seem' to be an ensy bit swollen, she licks her lips alot and drools. The drool is clear and is not stringy or viscus.....just droplets like you would see when a thirsty dog drinks water. could this be a symptom of
some disease? Today I picked up very toy, ball....everything I could think of that may retain the bug spray and pitched it in the trash. I have a terracotta pot that I noticed shattered due to some snow....I have to move it but it is too heavy right now.....could that be a culprit? I was even wondering about some low level shock from our a/c unit or cable on the house....I haven't seen any exposed wires though....grasping at straws. You can probably call the electric company and have them check the wires to make sure there is no exposure there. I would also ask the Veterinarian to draw blood and see if there is anything wrong there. amanda samantha sydney murphy foster and kipling |

I have an appointment for her with the Veterinarian. As usual, she was fine a coupl hours later. I hated throwing all her toys away but think they were harboring the bug spray.
I haven't called the pest company yet but will. That is a good idea about the list of chemicals. And I didn't think to call the electric company...not a bad idea either. Thanks again....... |

I agree with bitterrootbullies, I think it's an effect from the spray. I hope by the time you read this your problem will be well under control. There are natural sprays which can be used to control insects. They are generally derivitives of spices (cloves for one) and oils of fruits (ants really hate citrus oils). We use a natural spray in our house cause of the cats. We get it at Home Depot. Seems to work, doesn't bother the cats and smells pretty good too.

The only other thing that I can think of would be she's been playing with toads. But it's probably the wrong time of the year for that. You usually see that in the spring and early summer. So I'd also be suspecting the bug spray.
