Default scratching from allergies

My dog is a 12 lbs terrier, was told is scratching from outdoor allergies, was told to be put on benadryl,we tried this for 1 week seems to be still itching-scratching quite a bit, also was told might need steroid shot.Is there any thing else besides steroid shot to help with allergies.Thank You Jerry

Jerry, environmental allergies are such a hard thing to deal with.
I would certainly continue with the Benadryl. I don't know how much you are giving or how often you're giving it, but, make sure you're giving it frequently enough.

You can choose to put pajamas of sorts on your dog before going out and/or giving your dog a quick rinse after being out to help reduce the amount of allergens that remain present on your dog.

In addition, I would add a good quality salmon oil and vitamin E to help keep the skin and coat in optimal condition. I would also give ester C in fairly high doses as it does naturally have antihistamine effects.

You can try these allergy relief medicines for dogs. My friend used these medicines on their dog. It was pretty successful. There dog had some kind of sickness and could not take the regular dog allergy medication.
