Default need advice on elderly dog

Ok, so my Aussie is 13 years old, and she's been with me since she was a puppy. She's always been very athletic and happy and very attached to me. The last year and a half was a little confusing for her. I left my partner after 9 years together and I moved 3 times before landing in a great apartment with a sweet roommate who my dog took to immediately. The stress of that time has been obvious, though, and she's aged visibly. She is much slower, has a sever flea allergy and only wants to sleep and eat these days. She has a hard time walking on our wood floors and occasionally stumbles on the stairs. Now, I've decide to move up north to my hometown in NY and she has lived her entire life in Florida. I'm looking for some opinions on whether this move would be too hard on her. She's always traveled with me, but I'm afraid the stress of relocation to an entirely new climate will push her too far. Or, would the stress of leaving her behind be worse? My mom has offered to take her, and she would be happy there eventually, but she always gets worried when I go away on trips. I'm torn on this and I have to leave within the next 2 months, and make a decision.

I'm sorry your Aussie is having such a hard time.

If she were my dog, I would take her with me. Until then, I would buy some throw rugs to scatter around the hardwood floors to make it easier for her to get around and try to avoid stairs for her.

Where she is having a hard time getting around, I would get her on a good joint supplement and make sure you're exercising her enough to keep good muscle tone.

I'm sure that the stress is tough on her. While going through all these changes, try your best to keep a regular schedule with her and minimize your own stress levels as dogs certainly can sense how we are feeling and this can make things more difficult for her.

Best of luck to you.

i'm sorry to hear about your problems. she would be happy eventually with your mom but it's nothing compared to how happy she will be when she's with you. you should give it a try and bring her with you to NY. who knows, she might like it there.
