Vacations and fish care.

We just went on vacation and when we got back we had lost 7 fish... it really sucks, the house got so hot that it boiled them... anyone who has fish needs to try to remember that when your house is all closed up it gets really freakin hot in the house and that CAN effect the temp of your tanks.
The only plus side is that it only happened to the one tank and not the other three. Anyways I thought I should post this as I have not posted much lately (I have so busy with the kids and my new job) well, hope no body else makes the same mistake I did. When getting someone to watch your fish make sure they know the little things, like what temp the tank should be at and to check the air pump hoses and the filter what-nots! I don't think anyone on this siter even has fish but if anyone does, I hope this has helped...

Several years ago I had the opposite thing happen. We went on vacation in late fall, and while we were gone there was a cold spell, and we had a power outage. Half of our fish froze to death. When we got home the only thing we had left was the algea eater and the zebra danios we'd started the tank with. And those were moving mighty slow until things warmed up a bit.

Since we moved to an area where the winters are a lot milder, I don't worry so much about that. But you're right, it does get really hot in the house when the windows are closed up and the air conditioner isn't running.
