Default Fish Lying At the bottom of the tank

Hi to all .. I'm a total starter newbie in fish rearing and i'm rearing some fresh water small fishes.

I've encountered a problem .. At the 1st day .. i cleaned everything and i anti chlorinized the water and filtered the tank for 2 hours.

Afterwhich i put in my fishes .. They were fine till after 12 hours !! I see them lying flat on the pebbles at the bottom of the tank but they are still alive. Gills moving.

Could i know what have happened. They do not have cloudy eyes or spots on the body ..

Help Help .. Someone please advise me thanks !

Did you put them in a bag first, and put them AND the bag in the tank to slowly equalize the water temp?

Sounds like they are in temperature shock.

Default More indept exp.........

When setting up a brand new tank, the most important step involved is the so-called cycling of the tank: that initial period (usually 4-6 weeks) where a large colony of beneficial bacteria will grow and help process the wastes produced by the tank's inhabitants. During the cycle, certain toxins - mainly ammonia and nitrite - rise to very high levels until the bacterial colony is large enough to process them. Since the existence of fish wastes have always been considered the starting point of a cycle, traditionally the cycling process would involve initially adding a few tougher fish (such as Zebra Danios) and allowing their waste to cycle the tank.

This method is indeed effective, however, it is very stressful for even the strongest fish. Ammonia is highly toxic, and its effect on the fish's gills could be compared to shampoo in your eyes...it "burns"! Worse yet, it will also cause permanent damage to the very tissues that allow the fish to breath. This damage is so serious that a significant fraction of fish used to cycle a tank die during the cycling period itself, and even those who do manage to survive the cycle have their life expectancy greatly shortened, often dying within the next few months instead of living a happy life of 3-10 years that almost all fish are capable of. In many cases, people also end up getting stuck with a few fish that they really didn't want to have in the first place, but bought them anyway because someone told them they were "good for cycling", if such a thing exists."

and That is why I always suggest Bio-Spiro, it is live bacteria,,,,,,,,

Let me see if I can help................
Right now the best thing would be to take the fish back to the store,,,,
If that isn't possible, get the bio spiro, and add to the tank .
feed only once a day, the amonia is what is hurting them right now,
How big is the tank???
And, 1 hour is way to long to "Float" fish,,,,,,10 to 15 minutes is plenty long,
and this is a biggie"NEVER ADD BAG WATER TO YOUR TANK" not from a friend, or a fish store,,,,, Never, never,,,,,,
OR, you could try Amquill+, it will nutralize the amonia,,,,,,,
Hope this helps......
Le't me know if you need anything else,,,
I'll help you all I can............
