Fish blisters?

my fish developed irratated scales then the scales became inflamed and they look like a big blister and the scales behind the "blister" are also becoming irratated. the fish is still eating and swimming activly. and today i noticed that my beta fish is developing what looks like a 'blister' as well. i really don't want my beta to die he is my favorite and the one i started my tank with.
