I just bought a 30 gal. tall aquarium today and I was just trying to get ideas of what type of fish I should put in there. I know I want a community tank and something that can live with a betta. Since it is a tall aquarium I would like to have fish that fill the whole thing. Some that stay at the bottom, middle, or top. To keep it less crowded and more active looking. I have some experience in fish so I could probably handle moderate level fish.
Also I have a 10 gal. aquarium that I need ideas on what to do with it. I haven't decided if I want to put fish in there or not and if so what kind. Or if I want to use it for a turtle or lizard. What do you think? |

Congrats on the new purchase. In regards to the 30 gallon and the betta, I think that REALLY depends on the Betta. My Betta, Jack, is very territorial and aggressive, and can't share any space with any fish lol. My mother has kept male Bettas with guppies before, even though all other sources say not to. However, I would think that in general, you should be ok with most anything that is not too slow-moving or fancy-finned, such as corydoras catfish (small bottom feeders), zebra or leopard danios (usually surface) though my experience with zebras at least has been less than pleasant.. they are typically notorious fin-nippers and do best when kept in schools of at least 5. Of course, many of the smaller tetras (neons, black finned, cardinal, etc) would probably do well also. They are typically mid-level swimmers. Cherry barbs might work for surface swimmers, or Australian Rainbows. Anyway, I am sure I can think of many more, but it is almost dinner time here. But, I thought I would offer a short list to work with at least.
