Default cooking for dogs?

I just read an article in the St.Pete times today of a dog owner that has stopped feeding her dogs commercial dog food and started cooking for them, given the recent scare of tainted food, I was wondering if anyone else is doing the same thing and if this is beneficial to the animals. I would have no problem being a chef to my pals if it is in their best inerest.

The biggest drawback to cooking for your critters is making absolutely sure that they get a balanced diet. Balanced for protein, fat, carbs, vitamines and minerals. Dogs have different needs than humans and cats are even more different. I have been looking into it myself, mostly because of Samantha's cancer, not so much because of the recall.
Make sure you speak with a qualified veterinary nutritionist before you start. And if you cana find a qualified Veterinarian nutritionist let me know, I'm having a hard time locating one myself
