HI. I'm new here. My name is Sue. I have a year old Beagle. I was wondering about insurance for pets. I heard they have something at petsmart but I'm not sure what it covers and if it's worth it.
I was wondering if anyone here had insurance for their pet, or knew about it. Do they pay for routine things like visits or just for certain things? I'm also wondering if the cost of the insurance is worth what they cover. Also do the Veterinarian's sell the insurance themselves or does it work like human insurance where you get the insurance and then you have to go to doctors that will accept it? If so, how you would find a trustworthy insurance company in your state?. Any help appreciated. |

Well, like every other type of insurance, policies vary in what they cover, what they exclude, how much they cost, and what limitations there are. Some insurance policies are comprehensive; they cover everything, and so they cost more. The other end of the spectrum are policies that only cover catastrophic illnesses or accidents. Some will exclude pre-existing conditions, some do not. And some will require that you use one of their approved vets, while others allow you to use a Veterinarian of your choice.
You have to read the policy very carefully, and ask questions. Specific questions to ask would be what is covered by the policy? What is not covered by the policy? Can you use your existing Veterinarian, or do you have to use one of the vets they have on contract? How do you submit a claim, and what type of invoice do you have to provide? Hai,
I am Jennifer. I am Newbie to here. Pet Insurance can be availed without having to pay higher monthly installments can be as low as $10 depending on the type of policy and the insurer chosen. Veterinarians say that more than sixty percent of the pet owners make a claim one time per year. Pet health insurance is easy to obtain. The pet owner can meet a licensed Veterinarian in order to take advantage of thru policy. There are some problems too in the pet insurance policy. A pet insurance policy will not have coverage for pre-existing conditions. But the company will not reject a dog or cat only because it is old-aged.The policy will be in effect throughout the life span of the dog until and unless the owner wants to cancel the policy. But I have 1 query, It would be very nice if insurance can cover for theft for our songbirds. just an idea and if it's possible do pm me bcoz i might just get one for my songbirds. Please help me...

I think if you have a dog that may be prone to certain diseases or alments it would be worth looking into. I know a guy at work who has a St Bernar & a boxer who has spent thousands becuase of the typical problems that plauge those breeds. Ive always gotten mutts and they have been healthy. Its worth looking into it more and see what they offer. |

Pet insurance can be very valuable, but you really have to be careful and read the policy carefully to see what you are getting. I think the use of pet insurance is becoming more common due to the better veterinary care now available. You can find treatments and tests that you couldn't find a few years ago. While expensive, they can often help your pet. This is probably IMHO where pet insurance has become more mainstream.
I have a very good friend who had a golden retriever that came down with cancer. Over several months they ended up running up expenses over $3000. Unfortunately, they didn't have pet insurance and ended up paying out of pocket. While the treatment helped their pet to be comfortable for a few months, they ended up having to put him down. Really, it is up to you and how much you are interested in spending and for what coverage. There are many pet insurance review sites, some with forums, popping up. It may be worth visiting a few of those while you are shopping around, I saw an interesting article at Pet Insurance Biz about how many employers are starting to provide pet insurance as an employee benefit. Hope that helps, good luck in the search. Last edited by skip : 02-02-2008 at 05:56 PM. Reason: spelling error |

I would surely consider it carefully. It can end up saving you money in the long run if your pet becomes sick or injured. Sometimes, we forget about the potential for injury. If a pet gets away for just a moment, they could get hit by a car or fall off something and get hurt. If you don't have a lot in savings, it might be worth the $20-$40 a month. If money is tight, at least consider a policy for emergencies. Best of luck.

Hi,
The ability to share one's home with a cat or a dog is one of the great joys in life, they offer us love and loyalty, companionship and protection. It is not surprising therefore that they quickly win their way into our hearts as our four-legged family members. Unlikely our pets are as likely to become ill or to have an accident as any of our other loved ones, and in some cases more so. From falling down the stairs, to allergies, car accidents to cancer our pets frequently need the expertness of a veterinarian and at those times the last thing we want to think about is money. That's why Pet Care Pet Insurance Programs offers you the chance to manage the risk associated with your pet's medical issues through the provision of a selection of flexible and low-cast pet insurance programs.
