Default Chewing electrical cords

My 7 month American Eskimo likes to chew electrical cords when she gets the chance . I am worried that she will be toast , or worse burn my house down , I have been investigating some of these bitter apple sprays , but do they really work . The dog is crate trained and does this chewing while we are at home . I suppose I can do a better job at tucking my cords in an all , any suggestions?

Bitter apple works for some dogs, not for others. The same is true for hot sauce...the hotter the better. Plain old Tabasco might do the trick, but if that doesn't work you could try a drop of habenaro sauce. But just a drop. Habenaro sauce is really potent.

Another thing you can try would be to set her up with a cord that is not plugged in. As soon as she starts chewing it, correct her, wait about 30 seconds, and give her an appropriate item to chew. To correct her, use a shaker can (an empty can with a few pennies in it), use a sharp NOOOO, or have a leash on her and when she goes for the cord give it a sharp tug. If she drops the cord, give her a mild "Good Girl" and substitute with a bone or chew toy. If she doesn't drop the cord, take it out of her mouth, make her sit for 30 seconds, then give the appropriate chew item.

Do keep in mind that she needs to chew right now to properly set her teeth. So be sure she has plenty of bones and chew toys to use. You still have several months of this before she starts to settle down in the chewing department.
