Default Got Bitsy's Ashes Today...

Got my schauzer Bitsy's ashes today from the Veterinarian. She was creamated on the 16th. They put her in a nice teak box, and I ordered a brass plaque for her box.

I will really miss her. This has been the hardest loss I have had, and I am in my late 40s. Never though I would grieve so much over a dog...

Anyway, I added this forum to the site as a place where all of us can post. Please feel free to post your stories, memories and pictures.

Thank you

I am so sorry for your loss, I know the pain you feel she was not just a dog but a beloved companion that loved unconditionally, talk of her often, it does help

Thanks, I appreciate that.

I talk about her all the time. I have her urn her in my office and I can scarcely walk by it without touching it. I plan on keeping Bitsy, it may seem morbid to some, but the urn is nice looking, in good taste and small. So, my stance is it gives me comfort and causes no harm.

I kept my kitty's ashes on my dresser for years. The day I moved from the house we lived in together, I spread her ashes on her favorite spot in the garden. She loved to sit there in the sun and watch everything around her. I couldn't bare to take her away from the place that she loved so much.

I have Tucker's ashes on top of our TV in the family room. That's where we spent most of our time together...in the family room. I put his favorite bone and his collar up there. His ashes arrived the day I picked up my new puppy, and I cried like a baby, even though my Mom picked them up for me and put his picture inside the box so it could be displayed. My Veterinarian just started offering cremation services, and I am so glad they do it now. I could not bear the thought of ever moving and not being able to take him with me. I pat him every night before bed, but it is still as hard as the day he died. I hate getting up in the morning because the first thing I do is sit up and look for him. The last thing I do before going to sleep at night is look for him on my bed to give him his goodnight hug and kiss. I wish I could say it gets easier, but even though everyone has told me it will, it hasn't for me. I'm starting to wonder if it ever will.

That's the way I feel about Bitsy. I could not bear to leaver her behind, but then again, we moved before, plus we RV a lot, so Bitsy didn't really have a "favorite spot", if she did then I would spread the ashes too, but that's not really the case with Bits.

Her "home" was with her people. If I am anywhere close by, it didn't matter where we were, she was home.

I do not have the strength to get another puppy yet. In time I might. I have been helping my mother-in-law train her schnauzer puppy, that's been kinda fun.

Yesterday we went camping for the first time without Bitsy. It really was VERY hard to go to sleep. I have never slept in that camper since I owned it without Bitsy in my bunk with me. It was hard to get any sleep, kept looking over at her "place" beside me...

I understand completely... because abby is buried outside her favorite window, it is one of the reasons I feel I would have a really difficult time moving from my house.

I have said my last goodbye to several dogs over the years and yes it does get better. I don't think the pain ever leaves completely, I've lost Muttley in '89, Melanie and Bug after that. I still miss them and I still cry, but it is better. As for getting a new pet, everyone has to make that decision for themselves but I am reminded of a passage I read in a dog book years ago. It asked the question that if you lost a human friend, would you never have another human friend to avoid the pain of losing that friend? The other thought that helps me is the firm belief that I will be with my canine friends again. When my time comes, I will be reunited with them all and what a time we will have then! I hope this helps.
