Just lost a dog.. and more

This past Sunday, I recently lost a pet of mine. It was actually my mom's, but it was sort of everyones. She has cried a ton and still feels so bad about it. She would never let the dog outside because he would not stay around the house, but would run around like crazy. Sunday morning, her husband let him out for a few minutes (along with his dog) and he fed the cat while they were outside. He soon called them back in and Baby-J (the dog's name) came in and then just sort of fell to the ground. He wasn't sure what was wrong with the dog.. as it continued to try to get up and go, but couldn't. He tried calling a Veterinarian, but nobody was up.

Within 15 minutes, the dog died. We aren't exactly sure what happened, but we think he was hit by a car. The only thing is that there were no marks or anything (besides a small bit of blood that we couldn't find where it came from). He didn't bark or make any noises.. it was really sad.

Does anyone know what could have potentially happened besides a car hitting it? You would think the dog would have barked and made a lot of noise, and we would have heard a car do something. They (mom and step-dad) firmly believe that he was hit, but I am not 100% convinced that it wasn't something that could have happened while he was running crazy outside.

Just wanting to see if any of you have any other ideas?

I am very sorry for your loss

There could have been several things that happened. Hit by car is certainly a possibility since often times the majority of damage is internal and cannot be seen on the outside. Another very likely possibility is poisoning, either intentional or accidental. Rat poison and antifreeze are two very potent toxins that are lethal to dogs. Another possibility is a snake bite or insect bite that caused an anaphalactic shock response.

I hope that your parents will choose to either use a tie out or fence their yard in the future to prevent this tragedy from happening again.

Sounds like the dog had a heart attack...

Sorry for your loss, I lost my shnauzer to lymphoma cancer over a month ago and I still find myself crying over it. Pet's are like children that never grow up and loosing them hurts like hell.
