Who has Guinea Pigs?

Who on here loves/has guinea pigs?

I have one right now. She is 6½ years old, Her name is Roxy and she is mostly black with dashes of brown and a bit of white on the tip of her nose. Her brother Teddy and her sister Heidi pass away not to long ago. I had a total of 5 guinea pigs in my life at different times. They are great pets! Sadie dosen't mind Roxy. She actually loves Roxy.

Nice looking pig! I personally like them, my Mom used to have them but I am afraid of them. I have heard how hard they can bite, so I am scared to death of them!

The boy Teddy ( the brother of Roxy) would bite hard if he didn't get his way or if you went to clipped his nails! So hard, he sometimes drew a little blood. Nothing major. He was a sweet piggie when he got his way or got what he wanted. My Mom had guines pigs when she was young. So that how I got to love them.

Maybe when my cats are gone and all I have is the dogs and the bird, maybe I will give them a try.

I read in my Guinea Pig Handbook by: Sharon L. Vanderlip D.V. M.,( Great Book) which mentions when having birds around guinea pigs, the birds can peck the guinea pig to death. I suggest that you keep the bird in one room and the guinea pig (s) in another. Dogs can play rough but of course you have to watch the dog. I let Sadie sniff/nudged<----( alittle) Roxy but that's about it. with the cats, you could block the door to the room that the piggie is in and make sure it's high enough that the cat can't jump over it!!! About Teddy nipping, that was his personally. Roxy almost never nips me unless I have her on her back when she gets her nails clipped or dosen' get what she want or get her way!!! Now Roxy's Mom Dana was a not-so-friendly piggie. She would try to nip you even if you try to pet her. She wasn't that bad of a piggie. I think she got missed treated at the pet store where I got her and that's why she had that attitude. I loved her though!!! She died in 2000 or 2001 after the babies got weaned from her. Where are you heading on vacation? Oh, I was at the pet store today (my Mom was getting goldfish for her pond), and I actually touched a guinea pig. They sure are cute...

Hello again:

I'm going to a campground in Bayville, NJ. We have a 35ft King of the Road Fifth Wheel Trailer. It’s like having a house on the road!!!! LOL It's close by the Island Beach State Park. Only like 30 minutes away. We go fishing and hang out by ourselves and sometime also with friends.
What color was the little piggy? You should have gotten one LOL!!! I love my Roxy very much. I will be saddened when her time is up!! For being 6 ½ years old that is a good rip age for a piggy. They usually live up to 3-4 and unless you are like me and care for it and give it TLC a lot they will live longer!!! <----- I believe in that saying. She was my favorite piggy in the litter that Dana had. She is such a sweetie and a very quite one. She is not use to squeaking up for food because Teddy and Heidi did that for her. They both were very vocal and Roxy is not. So she is learning. I can’t hear Roxy high pitch squeak very well because I can’t hear high pitch sounds/noises. So when my Mom is home, she always lets me know when she hears Roxy squeaks she tells me to get her something to eat. I can hear normal things like dogs barking and people talking & all, but not high pitch noises like birds singing!!! PM me if you want to know more... out of curiosity. While we are on vacation my Grandma in Yarely, Pa is piggy sitting Roxy in her house! ! ! ! .
