Nice looking dog! Looks like it could chew on a thing or two. Good luck with your new baby!

She's pretty. How did you go about choosing a dog?

Sorry...must've missed this post...we weren't the smartest about it...I have since learned a lot and have helped people pick a breed that fit them, but we didn't do that. My Mom had a neighbor years ago that had a GSP. The neighbor did not provide the dog much attention (GSP's LOVE attention), so he would climb up on top of his dog house and jump the fence to go visit with my Mom and my now husband. My husband fell in love. When we got Tucker in 2000, we got him from a shelter and it was very much an "I'll take any dog we can find" decision. My husband decided that the next dog was going to be a GSP, and that's what we looked for after Tucker passed. I did do some homework, read the breed standard, made sure the dogs were OK with kids, but that's it. We are now anxiously awaiting the birth of our next GSP, a male. His litter is due 7/2. As you can probably tell, the GSP is an addicting breed!
As for choosing this particular dog, I didn't. My husband found her online the day Tucker passed and I was in no mood to get another dog, let alone look at other dogs. I did warm up after a bit and found it took my mind off my grief, and she was within a reasonable distance from us and we put a deposit on her. She is a hellion, but she's a good dog. She's just being a puppy. We also made OUR lifestyle fit her, not get the dog that suits the lifestyle. It's a sacrifice, but hopefully we will all be healthier because of it!

Hi Tucker'sMom!

How is Addison doing? Are you planning to have her in any shows when she gets older? Sadie is just a house dog. No shows for her because of what she had been through during her puppyhood.

No conformation...we had her spayed last month. I am hoping to put her in NAVHDA Natural Abilities Trials for Pointing Dogs. My next one is probably going to do more, but he is going to be black roan which is not accepted in the US for conformation shows. The parent club has been talking about adding a division for black GSPs, so hopefully they will do that, then I will consider him for shows. He will be in the Natural Abilities Trials, and hopefully go on to at least a Junior Hunter, if not farther. I am hoping to compete with Addi in obedience and/or agility. I live in rural PA, so the events closeby are few and far between, and since I have 2 little ones, traveling a long ways is difficult.
We just took Addi out in the field for the first time last night, and she did so well, we are so proud of her. She's doing pretty well...normal puppy stuff. I forgot how difficult it was to have a puppy around!
