Default My Sweeties

We adopted both of these wonderful little beings, Katie and Emma, a bit over three years ago. They came as a "pair". Emma can be a bit skittish, but other than than a very loving cat, especially with my wife. We suspect her life before us was not good. Now, Katie on the other hand is "my girl". When she discovers I am home from work, she can't get enough of my attentions. They both prefer to sleep curled up with my wife who says having two cats curled up to her can be a bit warm. That's ok with me as I tend to thrash a bit in my sleep...soooo.....They both have their own special way of getting it across to us human types what it is they are needing, wanting, or craving. Emma is quite vocal with the "yow"!!. It's amazing the amount of sound she can get out of that little mouth. Katie has a couple of barks, yowls and "rrrrr"'s. She does this stattaco(sp?), rapid fire "meow, meow, meow". The first time we heard it it was like "what the heck was THAT"? They both have separate preferences on food like people. Emma likes wet canned food, stooping to the dry only as a between meal snack. Katie will snub some canned food in preference to dry. Katie sits under the ice dispenser in the 'frige and crys for some crushed ice to drop out. Emma sits on the back of the with her paw on my wife's shoulder while 'they' watch tv. Both girls enjoy it when i have a large chunk of mozzarella cheese. I share a tidbit and they go away. When it's time for bed, my wife calls out "Girls, time for bed!" and away they go. They have us figured out way better than we understand. I could go on, but that's the snapshot of those two who have allowed us to come into their lives.

They're beautiful. Thank you for sharing your pictures and your stories. How did you get them?

We, actually my son 17 at the time and my wife, happened to be in a Petsmart where these kitties were being showcased by a local animal rescue agency. We had 2 previous cats at different times, 1 of which was predatory to my then young son, he had to go bye-bye (the cat not my son), and the 2nd of of 2 decided to permanently explore the outside world. He got out and despite my best efforts was lost. I wandered the nieghborhood with a can opener and a can of cat food. I would work the can opener, calling his name. It became obvious that he was either too far away to hear his favorite sound, or worse. Never found him. Anyways, these two were 6 to 9 mo, possibly, who knows, and my wife announced one evening what they had "found". I was AGAINST this. My son had been bugging for a new cat. I said, "No, no more animals." Well, we were at Home Depot one fine afternoon and Petsmart is RIGHT NEXT DOOR. Yah, I was SET UP. Soooo, there we were. UH huh! I saw them, they saw me. I named them right on the spot. Emma was stand offish, but Katie (I prefer Katy) was curious about me. Katie the Curious. I forget what I nicknamed Emma. I would not be over ridden on the names and they stuck. With cats in box we were homeward bound. Little voices mewed out from the confines of the carrier as did little paws with CLAWS as my son found out. Uh huh. We got home, let them out and they got used to their new surroundings. A bit of mewing, some tentative wandering, always coming back to the box we left open on it's side. And the rest is history. We've got as many pictures of them as we do of us humans! Emma is sitting at the opening to the den giving me the 'look'(I know you are talking about me). Katie just departed my lap. ESP? Yah they have it in spades. Both are inside cats. They can look thru the screens, but unless they are in my wifes arms,,,not to go out. Period. Nope. I believe cats only get hurt outside. Especially here. We have roaming coyotes. I've seen them. Plenty of them. Almost ran over a few. They are known to come right in your back yard. 6 foot fence? No problem. A lady in Scottsdale lost her dog recently that way. They will jump ON the fence, use it to walk on and find what they want to eat. If it's your pet, so be it. Anyways....So that's how we got our girls. Of course both are spayed. However since they are confined to the house we have not kept up on their shots. Maybe a bad idea. Thanks for asking, We loves our cats. I'll check in from time to time. Hope to find a reason katie is losing hair from in front of her ears. See my post in Pet Health.
